Kahiki Supper Club
3583 East Broad Street
Columbus, Ohio

These 1970s graphics were found on the match boxes for The Kahiki Supper Club in Columbus, Ohio.  The Kahiki was a legend in the Tiki world.  Built in 1959 by Bill Sapp and Lee Henry after their Grass Shack bar burnt down, the building was a classic example of Polynesian Pop architecture with a long, sweeping roof, A-frame design and 2 large moai tiki statues at the entrance.  It’s most famous icon was the large moai shaped fireplace inside.  The Kahiki was placed on the National Register for Historic Places in 1997, but unfortunately closed in 2000.  It was then bought by Walgreen’s, who bulldozed it to build a new drug store.
