The Polynesian Room at the Yankee Clipper Hotel used these graphics on their matchbook covers in the 1960s. Located on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, it became one of the most popular hotels in that area. It was built by Bob Gill in 1956 and was designed to look like a 1930s cruise ship. It was the first hotel in Ft. Laudedale to open year round, as well as the first to offer air conditioning. In the 1950s and 1960s, the Yankees would stay there during spring training, and there even was a TV news studio on the top floor. The Polynesian Room had a 300 seat Hawaiian themed floor show and was the first to offer such in Ft. Lauderdale. The Polynesian Room closed in the mid 1970s, but the Yankee Clipper still thrives today, and still includes the Wreck Bar, a nautical themed bar with underwater mermaid shows that is original to the hotel.
