Not much is known about Pub Tiki. It was part of The Pub restaurant chain, which had a couple locations in Philadelphia and one in New Jersey, but this location was the only tiki themed restaurant. It was opened in the mid 1950s, and was said to have been a grand Polynesian palace that included a waterfall and glowing map of the South Pacific. There are barely any photos existing of the place, which closed in 1977, only leaving a few tiki mugs, menus and other ephemera, such as this 1950s matchbook cover, behind as proof of its existence. Many of the items had their “1 1/2” trademark on them, and no one really knows what that stood for. Some say it was for one and a half hours of free parking, but a more plausible answer is the 1.5 ounces that they guaranteed was in every drink and shot.
