Western Ave Gardena, CA This circa 1960s imagery came from a matchbook cover for Mishima’s restaurant in Gardena.  This is a classic example of the Polynesian Pop Culture movement that happened in Southern California in the 1950s and 1960s.  Mishima’s advertised “exquisite cuisine and cocktails of the Pacific islands”, but it was really just a mix of Japanese, Chinese and Cantonese food with a little flair added to it.
